We at 39 region would like to express are gratitude to those people who showed up at our first meeting on the 14th /11/12.
My self Geoff Gibb and John goodyer who are joint ro's at the newly resurrected 39 region Southampton was pleasantly surprised of the attendance & of the interest gained by the like minded anglers .
The enthusiasm from every body and the amount of ideas that came across that evening was quite inspiring to say the least.
with previous experience we know how difficult it can be to gain interest in pike angling here in Southampton, reasons being we have to travel for the better waters and yes the rivers are plentiful but secluded to trout and salmon anglers.
and gaining access on these stretches are proving difficult.
Going back to the evening of the 14/11/12 we had 13 people turn up to see what direction as a club we are heading. By the end of the evening we gained 13 members, we have gained another 4 members since good news i thnk.
We would like to thank james sarkar for donating a mount of items towards the raffle , i know that having James on board will be a valuable asset for the Region.
Also a big thank you goes out to Andy beal who is our assistant R.O, who has equally contributed towards the region.
We are currently holding all our venues at the Obelisk Hotel 108/110 obelisk road Woolston Southampton.SO19 9DP from 20.00hrs until 22.30 hrs every third Wednesday in the month.
our first date after Christmas will be held on the 16/01/13.
We have three talks in the new year Starting with Nick peat from Bournemouth who incidentally will be our very first speaker and we are so much looking forward to this Evening.
Our 2nd speaker to grace the arena on the 20th of February will be James sarkar who will be talking about his zander experience's which im sure will be intriguing to us in the South were there are no zander in southern waters.
On the 20th of march what other way to end the season to introduce Dilip and Karen sarkar to our evening which we know that that they will feel at home knowing that karen herself from Southampton..
There is a small fee for the above mentioned evenings and they are as follows.
PACGB Members £3.00.
39 Region Members £3.00.
Under 16,s Members Free
Non Members £5.00
Under 16,s non members £2.00
We have many plans ahead for the region but as yet we have not sprung into action however this is imminent. Our first call of duty is to try and
build a strong following of junior anglers within the region , and organise Teach - ins for both juniors and non experienced anglers. And hope to gain access on the local waters to try persuading local anglers of the importance of pike in their waters.
at this moment in time we have not organised any venue's for local fish-ins of our own but we are trying to create some venues for next season. At this moment we have been relying on Vince Williams 34 Region who has without hesitation agreed for us to fish one of his venues when i phoned him.
So on the 9/12/12 6 of us travled up to orchid lakes in oxford relying on the trusty sat nav for it to take us 5 miles past the actual venue. Running out of time decided to throw out that annoying sat nav out of the car window im sure i heard it say at the round about take the second exit, anyway i know i could rely on john with his map it never fails getting us there bang on time for the draw.
We received a very warm welcome from Vince and and the rest of the lads from 34 Region which was a nice start to a great day,s fishing had by all.
Forty Two Pike came out that day and twelve of them falling to the Southampton lads. The biggest weighing in at 16Lb 13oz caught by Nick Webb, but still only managing the second biggest of the day.7 were caught by our very own( Golden Ball,s) Neil Parrish the best of the bunch being 4lb 13 oz.
On the note of travling to other fish-ins 4 members took the long journey to Suffolk waters to fish the Pacgb venue organised by dave munden which again was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Pike lines will probably publish the catches of the day so ill just add the catches of the 39 region's starting with john goodyer who had caught two within the first 2 hours of the day the best weighing in at 4lb 09oz.
It was a few more hours before nick web landed yet another high double at 18lb.10oz who seems to be making a habit of this. and the final catches of the day was from Ian Saddler with his brace weighing in at 8lb 1oz and with the best of the day with a 19lb 8oz. a good way to finish a days fishing.
Unknowingly what awaited for the lads that travled was the two hour's hold up on the M25 on the home ward journey, Nice try M25 you have to do better than that to ruin a day we had.
39 region would like to express there thanks and gratitude towards all those in the pacgb & those from other regions who has helped us to head in the right direction and enabling us to gain the convidence we need to carry on in running the region.
we also welcome aboard new members Kevin O'Rourke,Eugene Dullaghan, who has joined us recently.
Last and not least a big congratulations must go to our very own James Sarkar for making the front page of the pike & predator magazine. Well done james keep up the good work .
Stricta Linea's nobis omnibus. Geoff Gibb & John Goodyer.
